About North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCORMP)
The North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCORMP) is a developmental initiative launched in 1999. It is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and the North Eastern Council (NEC) in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Government of India (GoI). The objective of the project is to improve the livelihoods of the people in the region by promoting community-based natural resource management.
NERCORMP covers 4 states of the northeast region, namely Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur. The project works with communities residing in the remote and inaccessible areas of these states, focusing on empowering the people and promoting sustainable livelihoods. The project adopts a participatory approach where the community members are actively involved in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the project activities.
One of the main goals of NERCORMP is to improve the socio-economic condition of the people living in the region. The project aims to do this by promoting income-generating activities such as agriculture, horticulture, livestock rearing, and forest-based enterprises. NERCORMP also focuses on capacity building of the community members by providing them with training on various skills such as entrepreneurship, marketing, and financial management.
Another important aspect of NERCORMP is the conservation of natural resources. The project aims to protect and enhance the natural resource base of the region through the promotion of sustainable natural resource management practices. This includes the adoption of eco-friendly farming practices, promotion of biodiversity conservation, and sustainable management of forest resources.
Over the years, NERCORMP has been successful in improving the livelihoods of the people living in the region. The project has helped in reducing poverty, increasing income levels, and improving access to basic services such as healthcare and education. Through its interventions, NERCORMP has also been successful in promoting social inclusion and gender equality.
