Educational Qualification: 1st class master’s degree in microbiology/biotechnology or equivalent qualification. Desirable:
(i) PhD in any of the above subjects (topic must be related to Fungi/Mycology) (ii) Working experience in selective isolation, in vitro culturing, conservation, and describing fungal taxa (species/genera).
(iii) Sound knowledge of the latest developments in systematics, classification, and taxonomy of fungi.
(iv) Working Experience in DNA isolation, (from natural substrates, and pure culture) PCR, Sequencing, and multigene phylogeny of various group of fungi.
(v) Sound knowledge of modern tools like NGS, metagenome and bioinformatic analysis of fungi.
(vi) Experience in the isolation of fungal secondary metabolites, enzyme assays, bioactivity testing, and handling analytical equipment like HPLC, GC-MS, MALDI-TOF, etc.
(vii) Publications in journals (with JCR impact factor) to support the research/desirable experience in the relevant area(s).
Pay Scale: INR 15600-39100/- Per Month

About Agharkar Research Institute (ARI)
Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) is an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. It was established in 1946 as Maharashtra Association for the Cultivation of Science (MACS) and was registered under the Societies Registration Act. 1850. Later, as the research activities started expanding, the MACS Research Institute was given a separate identity. The institute was renamed as ARI in 1992 to honour its founder Director, late Professor S. P. Agharkar. The current research and development activities of ARI span across all areas of life sciences spread over six different themes, namely Biodiversity & Paleobiology, Bioenergy, Bioprospecting, Developmental Biology, Genetics & Plant Breeding, and Nanobioscience.
The institute has a distinguished faculty, modern infrastructural facilities, well-equipped laboratories, a guest house and students hostel. It is affiliated to the S.P. Pune University for postgraduate research (M.Sc. and Ph.D.).
