Meghalaya Government Holiday 2022: The list of holidays can differ from one state to another depending upon the state and which festivals are prominent in the region. Meghalaya is a state in northeastern India. Meghalaya was formed by carving out two districts from the state of Meghalaya: the United Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills, and the Garo Hills on 21 January 1972.
India celebrates three national holidays every year; in January, we celebrate Republic Day to honour the creation of our constitution. Independence Day is celebrated in August to honour freedom from the United Kingdom. Finally, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated in October.

The Deputy Commissioners are authorized to declare a maximum of 3 (three) days only as local holidays within their respective jurisdiction on the following occasions during the year 2022 except for East Khasi Hills District where State Government in GAD (A) will declare the Local Holidays.

SPECIAL HOLIDAY
Special Holiday has also been declared for all State Government Offices and all Revenue and Magisterial Courts and Educational Institutions in East Khasi Hills District, South West Khasi Hills District, West Khasi Hills District, East Jaintia Hills District, West Jaintia Hills District, Eastern West Khasi Hills District and Ribhoi District on the 22nd June, 2022 to celebrate “Rev. Thomas Jones Day”

List of Bank Holidays in Meghalaya 2022
All the above-mentioned public holidays will be observed by the banks in Meghalaya state. Other than this, the banks in Meghalaya also mark all Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays as holidays. However, it should be noted that services like ATM, IMPS, NEFT, etc remain active on the bank holidays.
School Holidays in Meghalaya 2022
Almost every Government holiday mentioned above are observed by the schools of Meghalaya state. Other than this, Sundays are marked as holidays too. However, Saturdays are not observed as holidays by all the schools and every school has its own policy regarding this. Significant Holidays of Meghalaya State
Some important festivals that are celebrated in the Meghalaya state and are specific to it have been provided below.
- U Tirot Sing Day- This day marks the death anniversary of Tirot Sing who fought against British empire to prevent them from gaining control over Khasi Hills. It is a regional state holiday of Meghalaya that falls on 17th of July every year.
- Seng Kut Snem- Seng Kut Snem is celebrated every year on 23 November which commemorates the anniversary of formation of Khasi Young Men’s Association that worked to preserve the indigenous way of life. Formed in the year 1899, the association was renamed as Seng Khasi.
- Pa Togan Nengminza Sangma- It is a regional public holiday of Meghalaya state that marks the death anniversary of a Garo tribe leader Pa Togan Sangma who fought against British empire to prevent them from gaining control over Garo Hills.
- Death Anniversary of U SoSo Tham- U SoSo Tham was a notable poet of Meghalaya state who contributed a lot to the Khasi language. His death anniversary is celebrated as a holiday all over the state and is observed every year on 18 December.
- U Kiang Nangbah- U Kiang Nangbah was a Khasi freedom fighter who fought against the British rule but was later hanged to death. He is remembered on his death anniversary that falls every year on December, 30th.
