The society functions under the guidance of the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) and the Tamil Nadu State Health Society.
The main objective of TNSACS is to provide HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS. The society works towards creating awareness about HIV/AIDS and reducing the stigma associated with the disease. TNSACS also conducts various training programs for healthcare professionals to provide quality care and treatment to people living with HIV/AIDS.
TNSACS has a network of more than 1000 Integrated Counseling and Testing Centers (ICTCs) across the state. These ICTCs provide free counseling and testing services to individuals who are at risk of HIV infection. TNSACS also has a referral system in place to ensure that people who test positive for HIV receive proper care and treatment.
In addition to this, TNSACS also provides support services to people living with HIV/AIDS, including antiretroviral therapy (ART), nutrition support, and counseling services. The society also conducts various awareness campaigns and outreach programs to educate people about HIV/AIDS and reduce the stigma associated with the disease.
TNSACS has been successful in reducing the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Tamil Nadu over the years. The prevalence of HIV in the state has decreased from 1.10% in 2007 to 0.35% in 2019, according to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS). This can be attributed to the efforts of TNSACS and other government organizations that have worked tirelessly to control and prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in the state.
