The Directorate General of Performance Management (Customs, GST & Service Tax) (DGPM) (previously known as Directorate General of Inspections of Customs and Central Excise (DGICCE), was constituted in 1939 as part of the CBIC’s Office (Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs) earlier CBEC (Central Board of Excise and Customs) for conducting periodical inspections and for advising the Board on technical questions and standardization of organization and procedures in the Customs Houses and the Central Excise Commissionerates. It was separated from the Board on 1st April 1946 and given the status of an attached office.
