About Directorate of Ayurved Rajasthan
Rajasthan is a state where Ayurveda has gradually expanded and strengthened and the main reason behind this is the state government’s policy of protection towards Indian medical systems. The learned Ayurvedic practitioners of the state have worked with full dedication and selflessness to keep the original form of this system intact. The Guru-Shishya tradition has contributed significantly to the development of Ayurvedic medical system in the state.
Initially, Ayurveda was taught along with Sanskrit education. The rulers of the former Jaipur state patronized it and an Ayurvedic college was established in Jaipur. There were also such educational institutions in the former Udaipur and Alwar states where Ayurveda was taught. Laboratories were established in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur for the manufacture of Ayurvedic medicines. Before the formation of Rajasthan in the year 1950, 346 Ayurvedic dispensaries were being operated in various princely states.
