About Us
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has established the network of 18 Population Research Centres (PRCs) spread over 16 major States of India, with the mandate to provide critical research-based inputs related to the Health and Family Welfare Programs and Policies at the National and State levels. Initially, these centres were known as Demographic Research Centres and were later on, renamed as Population Research Centres. PRCs are administratively under the control of their respective host University/Institutions. The scheme started with the establishment of PRC, Delhi in 1957 and PRC, Kerala 1958 which has expanded to 18 PRCs with the last inclusion of PRC, Sagar during 1999. Of these, 12 are attached to Universities and 6 are independent research institutions of national repute. Till date, the PRCs have completed about more than 4000 research studies published in various reputed National & International journals.
