About RPSC

Rajasthan Public Service Commission has an unprecedented history. In the year 1923, the Lee Commission had recommended the establishment of a Union Public Service Commission in India, but this commission did not consider the establishment of Public Service Commissions in the provinces. The provincial governments were free to make appointments and make state service rules as per their need.

At the time of the formation of Rajasthan State, out of a total of 22 provinces, Public Service Commissions were functioning in only 3 provinces – Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Bikaner. The then management of the state of Rajasthan, formed after the integration of the princely states, established the Rajasthan Public Service Commission under an ordinance on 16 August 1949, which was published in the Rajasthan Gazette on 20 August 1949. This ordinance is clearly mentioned in the third stanza of point no. (1) that the Commission shall be deemed to be in effect from the date on which the notification of appointment to the Rajasthan Public Service Commission is published in the Rajasthan Gazette. Thereafter, the notification related to the appointment was published in the Rajasthan Gazette on 22nd December 1949 and from this date, the Rajasthan Public Service Commission came into effect. By this ordinance, other public service commissions working in the state and other institutions working like public service commissions were closed. The rules related to the constitution of the commission, the employees, and the functions of the commission were also fixed in the ordinance.
