Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is India’s central agency authorized to conduct various examinations based on Civil Services, Indian Forest Services, Engineering Services, Combined Defense Services, National Defense Academy, Naval Academy, Combined Medical Services, Special Class Railway Apprentice, Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service, Combined Geoscientist and Geologist, and Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandant). Presently the chairperson of UPSC is Deepak Gupta and its Headquarters is located in Dholpur House, Shah Jahan Road, New Delhi – 110069

Syllabus of UPSC prelims Details:-

Paper I – (200 marks) Duration:  Two hours

1.Current events of national and international importance.
2.History of India and Indian National Movement.
3.Indian and World Geography– Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the World.
4.Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
5.Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
6.General issues on Environmental Ecology,Bio-diversity and Climate Change– that do not require subject specialization
7.General Science

Syllabus for Paper II-(200 marks) Duration: Two hours

1.Comprehension: Comprehension is the ability to read text, process it and understand its meaning.

2.Interpersonal skills including communication skills: Interpersonal skills are the life skills we use every day to communicate and interact with other people, both individually and in groups.

3.Logical reasoning and Analytical ability: Logical Reasoning means the process of forming judgement conclusions from premises or facts. The question in this section may be based on Verbal and Non-Verbal and Analytical skill is the ability to visualize, articulate, conceptualize or solve both complex and uncomplicated problems by making decisions that are sensible given the available information.

4.Decision making and problem solving ability: Decision making is the process of making choices by setting goals, gathering information, and assessing alternative occupations. Problem solving ability is able to solve the problem.

5.General mental ability: General mental ability (GMA) is a term used to describe the level at which an individual learns, understands instructions, and solves problems.

6.Basic numeracy and Data interpretation: Basic numeracy is numbers and their relations and orders of magnitude. Data interpretation includes charts, graphs, tables and data sufficiency.

7.English Language Comprehension skills: The skills of comprehensive in English Language.

8.Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level (last item in the Syllabus of Paper-II) will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.
